According to Exodus 3:1-14 and John 8:53-59, the phrase “ Angel of the Lord ” refers to Christ (the “ I AM ” of Exodus 3:14). Therefore, whenever the word “ angel ” is found in its singular form in the Old Testament it always refers to the SECOND PERSON of the trinity ( CHRIST ). The only exception is found in Zechariah 2:3 where the term “ another angel ” is found. This “ angel ” refers to the THIRD PERSON of the Trinity ( HOLY SPIRIT ). The phrase “ Angel of the Lord ” is found 56 times in the Old Testament, the phrase “ Angel of God ” is found 10 times, and the word “ Angel ” is found 37 times. The following is a list of references concerning CHRIST’S appearances in the OT: CHRIST’S physical appearances Gen 14:17-20 (1908 BC) ( Priest of the most High; Melchizedek ) Note - According to Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 7:1-4, Melchizedek was a theophany – a preincarnate appearance of Christ.
