Zechariah 3 Fourth vision - (The sinner, Satan and the SAVIOUR ) Date Written - Feb 24th, 520 BC/AM 3480 1 And 12 HE shewed me 13 Joshua the high priest standing before the 14 ANGEL OF THE LORD , and 15 SATAN standing at his right hand to resist him. 2 And the 14 LORD said unto Satan, 16 The LORD rebuke thee, O SATAN ; even the LORD that hath chosen Jeru- salem rebuke thee: is not this a brand 17 plucked out of the fire? 3 Now Joshua was clothed with 18 filthy garments, and stood before the 14 ANGEL . 4 And 14 HE answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him . And unto him he said, Behold, 19 I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. 5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with gar- ments. And the ANGEL OF THE LORD stood by. 6 And the ANGEL OF THE LORD pro- tested unto Joshua, saying, 7 Thus saith the LORD OF HOSTS ; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, 20 then thou shalt also 21 judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by. The promise of CHRIST’S First Coming in which HE would bring new life (Fulfilled - Lk 2:7,11 - 1 BC & Jn 10:10 - AD 31) 8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are 22 men wondered at: for, be- hold, I will bring forth my 23 SERVANT the 24 BRANCH . 2:4 It is important to note here that the HOLY SPIRIT is simply passing on information to CHRIST . Jesus will, in turn, pass it on to “ this young man ” (Zechariah). The information contained in these verses (4-13) refer to Jesus and was meant to encourage the prophet to help the people finish rebuilding the Temple in order to show the world Jesus saves. 2:8 So important is this message to the LORDOF HOSTS that He dispatches the MESSIAH ( the glory ) to execute His vengeance personally upon the violators (Josh 5:13-15, II Sam 24:16/ I Chro 21:12-30 and II Chro 3:1). 2:12 The reason for the third vision was to show God’s people that the entire Triune Godhead ( FATHER , SON , and HOLY SPIRIT ) is involved in the protection and preservation of the work within the Temple ( and shall choose Jerusalem again ), i.e., God’s work, which is saving sinners. 3:1 The reason for the fourth vision was to show God’s people that even Satan can’t stop ( resist ) God’s work, which is saving sinners (Mt 16:18 and I Jn 4:4). Satan can resist man’s efforts to get the Gospel out, but he cannot “stop” man’s efforts. NOTE - Satan’s only purpose for being present was to resist and discredit God’s messenger (Joshua) in hopes of stopping the message. 3:3 No matter how we appear before men (Joshua was the highly respected High Priest), we all appear filthy before a righteous and holy God ( Eccl 7:20 , Rom 3:10,23 a,b and Mt 22:10,11,14 ). 3:4 Whomever CHRIST saves, He also “clothes in his own righteousness” ( and I will clothe thee with change of raiment - Gen 3:21 , Lev 7:8 , Isa 61:10 , Mt 22:11 and II Cor 5:21 ).
