ZECHARIAH 2:5

OF HOSTS , and a 12 line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. P The promise of Israel’s restoration (Fulfilled - Rev 20:4) 17 Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the 3 LORD OF HOSTS ; 13 My cities through pros- perity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. P Second vision - (The four horns and four carpenters) 18 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. 19 And I said unto the ANGEL that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, 14 These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. 20 And the LORD shewed me four 15 carpenters. 21 Then said I, What come these to do? And HE spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but 16 these are come to 17 fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it. Zechariah 2 Third vision - (The MAN with a measuring line) Date Written - Feb 24th, 520 BC/AM 3480 1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a 18 MAN with a 19 measuring line in his hand. 2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And HE said unto me, 20 To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white. 9 Then said I, O my 1 LORD , what are these? And the 2 ANGEL that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be. 10 And the MAN that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the 3 LORD hath sent 4 to walk to and fro through the earth. 11 And they answered the 5 ANGEL OF THE LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is 6 at rest. 12 Then the ANGEL OF THE LORD answered and said, O 3 LORD OF HOSTS , how long wilt thou not have mercy on Je- rusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these 7 threescore and ten years? 13 And the 3 LORD answered the 8 ANGEL that talked with me 9 with good words and comfortable words. 14 So the ANGEL that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the 3 LORD OF HOSTS ; I am jeal- ous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. 15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and 10 they helped forward the affliction.

The promise to finish rebuilding the Temple (Fulfilled - Ezra 6:14-15 - 516 BC)
16 Therefore thus saith the 3 LORD ; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house 11 shall be built in it, saith the LORD 3 And, behold, the ANGEL that talked with me went forth, and another ANGEL went out to meet him, 1:11 All too often God’s people forget God and His work whenever things are at rest and at peace in their life (Hag 1:1-9). God’s people are warned not to wait to need God to need God (Prov 1:22-33, Ezk 14:12-23 and Amos 8:11-12 ). 1:16 The reason for the first vision was to show God’s people that, although God loves the city of Jerusalem, He does not need control of it when it comes to saving sinners. In order to reach the lost, all God needs is control of His house (the Temple and the sacrifices which point to CHRIST - Jn 1:29). The same is true today. All God needs to accomplish his work of saving sinners is control of Christians (His Temple - I Cor 6:19-20). 1:18 “ Horns ” in the Bible were used to convey the strength of governments (earthly world powers - Dan 8:7). 1:21 The reason for the second vision was to show God’s people that whatever nation messes with Israel and the Temple (the getting out of the message of salvation) ends up being whittled down to size ( cast out - Gen 12:1-3): * Egypt messed with Jerusalem and the Temple (I Ki 14:25-26) and was cast out as a world power by Assyria * Assyria messed with both Israel (II Ki 17:6) and Jerusalem (II Ki 18:13-19:37) and was cast out by Babylon * Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple (II Ki 24-25) and was cast out by Medo-Persia (Dan 5:30-31 & 7:4-5) * Medo-Persia tried to destroy the captive Jews (Esther 3-5) and was cast out by Greece (Dan 7:6 & 8:4-8 & 10:20) NOTE - For every horn (power) Satan tries to use in order to destroy Israel, God has a carpenter waiting in the wings to whittle that horn (power) down to size. You never want to be on the side of wrong (Dan 3:19-22). 2:3 This “other ANGEL ” is none other than the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD (Acts 10:3-5,19-20 and Rev 14:17-19).
