The promise of CHRIST’S rejection ; of Israel’s restoration (Fulfilled - Mt 21:42,44 - AD 32 & Rev 20:4)

7 Who art thou, O great 11 mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: 12 and he shall bring forth the head stone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. P 8 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9 13 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; 12 his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD OF HOSTS hath sent 14 ME unto you. P 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, 12 and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubba- bel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. P Two-fold prophecy: 1. The promise of Zerubbabel and Joshua 11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? 12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden 15 oil out of themselves? 13 And he answered me and said, Know- est thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 14 Then said he, These are the 16 two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth. Zechariah 5 Sixth vision - (The flying scroll) Date Written - Feb 24th, 520 BC/AM 3480 1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a 17 flying roll. to rebuild the Temple (Fulfilled - Ezra 6:14-15) 2. 9 For behold the 1 STONE that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be 2 seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the 3 LORD OF HOSTS , 4 and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. P Zechariah 4 Fifth vision - (The golden candlestick and the two olive trees) Date Written - Feb 24th, 520 BC/AM 3480 1 And the 6 ANGEL that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, 2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a 7 candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, 8 and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: 3 And 9 two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. 4 So I answered and spake to the ANGEL that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? 5 Then the ANGEL that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 6 Then HE answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my 10 SPIRIT , saith the LORD OF HOSTS . The promise to finish rebuilding the Temple (Fulfilled - Ezra 6:14,15 - 516 BC)

4:2 Zechariah’s candlestick ( seven lamps ) differed from modern menorahs in three ways: (1) It had a bowl of oil (vs 2); (2) It had 49 extra pipes coming out of the bowl to feed the seven individual pipes of the menorah (vs 2); and (3) It had two olive trees, with a golden spout coming from each tree, feeding into the bowl (vs 3). The idea expressed is that there was an unlimited amount of oil supplying the oil stored in the bowl to each of the seven lamps in order to keep it lit. In other words, the continued light that Israel would need to finish the rebuilding of the Temple would come from the SPIRIT OF GOD within Zerubbabel and Joshua (the two olive trees). Spirit-filled men are always the answer to keeping God’s work ablaze (Acts 1:4-8/Jn 15:26 and Lk 24:49). 4:12 The reason Zechariah was made to “answer again” was to show us the two different prophecies involved in the vision. 4:14 The reason for the fifth vision was to show God’s people that His work (saving sinners) required two ingredients: (1) God’s SPIRIT ( anointed - vs 6); and (2) God’s men ( ones - vs 14) (Rom 10:14-15 and Prov 29:18)
