P P 8 And I heard, 11 but I understood not: then said I, O my 12 lord, what shall be the end of these things ? 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall un- derstand; 13 but the wise shall understand. 11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and 14 the abomination that maketh desolate 15 set up, there shall be 9 A THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY DAYS . P P 12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. 13 But go thou thy way till the end be : for thou shalt rest, and 16 stand in thy lot at the end of the days. 2 And many of them 1 that sleep in the dust of the earth 2 shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some 3 to shame and everlasting contempt. P 3 And they that be 4 wise shall 5 shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness 6 as the stars for ever and ever. P Daniel’s message to be revealed in the end times 4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. 5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank 7 of the river. 6 And one said to the man 8 clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left

12:2 a According to Daniel, life after death is going to be eternal ( everlasting ), for at death, the human spirit goes either to Heaven or Hell. There is no such thing as “soul sleep,” or a long period of unconsciousness between life on Earth and life in Heaven ( I Sam 28:15 ). Daniel 12:2 says that some will awake (not awake as if they were soul sleeping – Isa 14:9b & 26:19 and Ezk 32:21 , but awake as in “alerted” to “ everlasting life ” in Heaven (Mt 19:29 & 25:34,46/II Pet 1:11, Lk 16:9 & 18:29-30, Jn 3:15-16,36 & 4:14,36 & 5:24,39 & 6:27,40,47,54,68 & 10:28 & 12:25,50 & 17:2-3, Acts 13:46,48, Rom 6:22-23, Gal 6:8, II Thess 2:16, I Tim 1:16, Titus 1:2 & 3:7, Heb 5:9 & 9:12,15, I Pet 5:10, I Jn 2:25 & 5:11,13 and Jude 21) while others awake (are alerted) to shame and everlasting contempt in Hell (Mt 18:8 & 25:41,46, Mk 3:29 & 10:30, II Thess 1:9, Heb 6:2, Jude 6-7 and Rev 20:11-15) . NOTE - Daniel 12:2 is the only place in the Old Testament where the expression “ everlasting life ” occurs. 12:2 b According to the Bible, Hell is “forever” ( everlasting contempt - Mt 25:46, Mk 9:43,45,47, II Thess 1:7-9, Heb 6:2, II Pet 2:17, Jude 11-13, Rev 20:10-15, Isa 66:24, Psa 9:17 , Lk 16:23,24,26 , Heb 6:2 d and Rev 20:10 b ). 12:3 a This verse is not teaching us about people winning people to Christ. According to I Corinthians 3:5-9, no one can win someone else to Christ. All we can do is plant a seed. It is God that “ giveth the increase .” This verse should read, “ and they that teach others (direct others) to be righteous shall shine according to their labors.... ” 12:3 b The reason God chose stars to portray the future resurrected bodies of saints is because stars perfectly illustrate the character of a believer ( I Cor 15: 38- 42 ). If you look to the heavens you will notice three kinds of stars that can be likened to a believer: 1. shooting stars (like Demas - II Tim 4:10) –exciting to watch for a while, only to disappear, never to be seen of again 2. twinkling stars (like some of Jesus’ disciples - Jn 6:60-66) –always fading in and out (I Cor 15:58) 3. shining stars (like the North Star and/or Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky) –they are fixed and outshine all other stars (II Tim 4:6-8). NOTE –Just as there are degrees of punishments in Hell (Mt 11:20-24 & 23:32-38, I Thess 2:16 and Rev 20:14 a ), there are degrees of rewards in Heaven (Lk 14:14 and Rev 4:2 b ). 12:4 Daniel foretold of a day when “knowledge would increase” at a pace beyond what is possible for the finite mind to grasp. So how smart have we really become in the last fifty years or so since the merging of automatic electronic computation and data processing? 1. We’ve become so smart that we are at a point in our history where it’s not a matter of “if” we destroy ourselves, but when . Not counting China and Russia, which are only one step behind the United States militarily, America alone could easily destroy the world with her military arsenal:
