The promise of Philistia’s complete fall to Babylon (Fulfilled - 586 BC) 15 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred; 16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, 1 I will stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the 2 Cher- ethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. P 17 1 And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them. P Ezekiel 26 The promise of Tyre’s fall to Babylon ; and eventually to Greece (Fulfilled - 572 & 332 BC) 1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the 3 word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 4 Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem, Aha, 5 she is bro- ken that was the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste: 3 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O 6 Tyrus, 7 and will cause many nations to come up against thee, as the sea causeth his waves to come up. P 4 8 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock. P 5 8 It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spo- ken it, saith the Lord GOD: and it shall be- come a spoil to the nations. 25:15 Refusing to forgive ( old hatred ) angers God ( Mt 18 :21- 34 -35). People who carry unforgiveness should be avoided ( Lk 17 :3- 4 and Heb 12:15b ). He that can’t forgive can’t be forgiven (Mt 6:15). 26:2 The city of Tyre made the same mistake as Ammon did ( Ezk 25:3 ) –they took pleasure ( Aha ) in the destruction of God’s people, a sin that angers God to no end (Prov 24:17-18, Job 31:29-30, Obad 10-14 and Exo 23:4-5). 26:3,5 This phrase ( many nations ) included both Babylon and Greece. NOTE - Tyre was a city on the northern coast of Palestine inhabited by the Phoenicians, a great maritime people who were greatly feared by their enemies. In 586 BC, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, laid siege to the city. The siege lasted for thirteen years (from 586-572 BC). By the time Nebuchadnezzar took the city in 572 BC, the Phoenicians had moved everything of value to an island about one-half mile off the coast. Though the city was taken as predicted (vs 7-18), Nebuchadnezzar profited nothing (Ezk 29:18), and the Phoenicians were not conquered. However, 240 years later, Alexander the Great, king of Greece (332 BC), built a causeway from the mainland to the island and leveled the city as predicted (vs 18-21). To this day (some 2,300 years later) the island on which the city of Tyre existed lies in rubble and is used solely “ for the spreading of nets ” (vs 5,14).
