6 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Be- cause thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and 5 rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel; 7 Behold, 6 therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD. P The promise of Edom’s fall to Babylon (Fulfilled - 582 BC) 12 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that 11 Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them; 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; 10 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword. P 14 10 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD. 24:27 Four years earlier in 592 BC, God gave Ezekiel a speech impediment for a sign to the captive Jews in Babylon (Ezk 3:26-27). The moment word came to Ezekiel of Jerusalem’s fall, he would speak again clearly ( shall thy mouth be opened – Ezk 33:21-22). 25:3 Rejoicing ( Aha ) over the destruction of others angers God (Prov 24:17-18, Job 31:29-30 and Exo 23:4-5). People who take pleasure in the destruction of other people should be avoided (Obad 10-14). 25:8 Despising God’s people ( Judah is like unto all the heathen ) angers God. People who care little about God’s people should be avoided. No matter how awful God’s people are, they are still God’s people (Rom 8:38-39). 25:12 Getting even ( taking vengeance ) angers God ( Deut 32:35 ). People who carry nooses (grudges) are to be avoided (Prov 20:22/I Sam 24:1-7, Mt 5:39, Rom 12:14,17-21, I Thess 5:15 and I Pet 3:8-9).
