away their robes, and put off their broi- dered garments: they shall clothe them- selves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every mo- ment, and be astonished at thee. P 17 1 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of seafar- ing men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it! P The promise of Tyre’s fall to Greece (Fulfilled - 332 BC) 18 2 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure. P 19 For thus saith the Lord GOD; 2 When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee; P 20 2 When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; P 21 2 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD. P Ezekiel 27 The pride of Tyre Date Written - 586 BC/AM 3414 1 The 3 word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lam- entation for Tyrus; 3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty. 4 Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty. 5 They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of 4 Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee. 6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of 5 Chittim. 7 Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of 6 Elishah was that which covered thee. 8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots. 9 The ancients of 7 Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy 8 calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise. 10 They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness. 11 The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect. 12 9 Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs. 13 Javan, 10 Tubal, and 11 Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.

26:21 When God makes a promise ( yet shalt thou never be found again ), He keeps it (Num 23:19, Titus 1:2 and Heb 6:18). There are 3,870 promises that God has made throughout His Word. To date, He has kept every one of them, from the promise of death to Adam and Eve if they ate from the forbidden tree (Gen 3:19 – Fulfilled 3070 BC - Gen 5:5) to the promise of a divided Rome (Dan 2:41-43 – Fulfilled AD 364). Of the 208 categories that are represented by those 3,870 promises, 190 categories have already been fulfilled. 27:3 Tyre is pictured here as a merchant ship (vs 1-9) with hired mercenaries (vs 10-11) and trading partners (vs 12-24 – twenty- three in all; trading with about thirty-eight different products). The passage continues with a funeral dirge being played for the doomed city (vs 25-28), and ends with the utter anguish of all those who pin their hopes on the temporal things of life (vs 29-36). Ezekiel 27 mirrors that of Revelation 18 and the fall of Political Babylon during the Tribulation Period. Both chapters sum up the world’s preoccupation with material wealth and prosperity and the pride success breeds. Note the following lessons concerning prosperity: * Prosperity does not indicate intelligence (Prov 19:1 and Lk 12:16-21) * Prosperity does not signify success (Psa 49:16-20, Mt 10:16a and Josh 1:8b ) * Prosperity does not symbolize spirituality ( Prov 16:8 , I Tim 6:3-10, III Jn 1:2a,b , Jere 12:1-2, Job 21:5-15, Psa 73:1-4 & I Ki 9:15) * Prosperity does not determine happiness (Prov 15:16 and I Sam 25:1-8,17,25) * Prosperity does not last (Prov 23:5 and Rev 18), not even for the believer (Job 1:20-21)
