Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper? P 6 And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 7 Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the 5 right of redemption is thine to buy it. 8 So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison accord- ing to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. 9 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. 10 And I 6 subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances. 11 So I took the 7 evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open: 12 And I gave the 7 evidence of the pur- chase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison. 13 And I charged Baruch before them, saying, 14 Thus saith the LORD OF HOSTS , the God of Israel; Take these 8 evidences, this 7 evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this 7 evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.
39 1 And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. P 40 1 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever. 32:1 At the darkest hour in Judah’s history, as the Babylonian army under Nebuchadnezzar was about to breach the city, word had come to Jeremiah from the LORD to buy a field north of Jerusalem that was already occupied by the invading armies (vs 7). Question: Who buys real estate during an invasion of their country? Answer: A God who knows that the land will not remain in the enemy’s hand (vs 42-44). Jeremiah’s purchase of his uncle’s field symbolized God’s intention to restore His people back to their land. G O D sees things not as they are, but as they will be ( Isa 41:4/Rev 21:5-6 and Isa 44:6 & 48:12/ Rev 1:8,11,17 & 22:13 ). 32:8 There are seven precautionary steps that we need to take to insure that the voice that we are hearing (vs 6-7) is truly God’s voice ( Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD ): (1) Remember to keep yourself humble (God speaks clearly to those who walk humbly – Mt 11:25); (2) Remember who G O D is (If you don’t know who God is, how are you going to recognize His voice when He speaks? – Jn 8 :44- 47 ); (3) Remember how God’s Word works (Your relationship to God’s Word determines God’s relationship to you – Colo 3:16/Eph 5:18); (4) Remember, the better you hear (obey – Jn 7:17) God’s Word the better you’ll recognize God’s voice (Those who will hear His Word will know His voice – Ezk 2:1-2); (5) Remember to keep your relationship with God simple (God works through those who keep things simple – II Cor 11:3 and I Cor 1 :26- 27-28 ); (6) Remember to surround yourself with the right kind of biblical counsel (Learn to know what God says and you’ll learn to know who to follow – Mt 5:21 -22 and II Sam 13:1-3); and (7) Remember to wait on God (Those who “serve” God’s purpose will know God’s voice – Isa 40:31 and Rev 1 :1- 3 ). Jeremiah “waited” on God while He waited for God to fulfill His purpose. You’ll know God’s voice when you serve God’s purpose (Jn 8:31-32).
