1 For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, 1 until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. P 2 1 And the Gentiles shall see thy righ- teousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. 1 7 WHO is this that cometh from Edom, 9 with 10 dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? 11 I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. P
2 Wherefore art 9 THOU red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? P 62:1 Isaiah was fully confident ( will I not hold my peace ) that the glory of Israel (vs 2-3) would come. No matter what the world says or does to Israel, she will survive and prosper like no other nation on earth. 62:11 We know that CHRIST is the Savior of all men (I Tim 4:10), but Isaiah here is not talking to mankind. He is speaking directly to the nation of Israel. Isaiah reminds the state of Zion, “ Behold thy salvation cometh… ” The Second Coming of CHRIST is all about the nation of Israel, not the Jewish/Gentile Church ( Lk 17:27-28 ). Jesus is coming back to save Israel, physically (Zech 12), so that Israel can fulfill its destiny according to the Scriptures (Gen 13:14-18 & 17:6-8). NOTE – According to the Bible, immediately after the return of Jesus (Isa 40:10, Mt 16:27, Lk 19:15 and Rev 11:18), every OT saint will be judged and thus rewarded accordingly ( HIS reward is with him ). NT saints, on the other hand, were rewarded seven years earlier, after the Rapture of the Church ( Rev 4:2b ). The statement “ and his work before him ” deals with the Millennial Kingdom. Isaiah 63 Isaiah 63 points to all seven of the moral attributes of God ( Rom 1:20b ): (1) His righteousness/justice (vs 1-6); (2) His lovingkindness (vs 7); (3) His mercies (vs 7,15); (4) His faithfulness ( He saved them – vs 9-14); (5) His love (vs 9); (6) His holiness (vs 15,18); and (7) His truth ( thy ways – vs 17). 63:1a Imagine, if you would, a beleaguered city with a beleaguered past ( Gen 14:18b ) and a beleaguered watchman upon its walls not knowing what is going to happen next. Now imagine an approaching warrior, soaked in blood, walking towards the watchman from outside the walls. Is he a friend or a foe ( WHO is this )? Then, with a sigh of relief the watchman recognizes who this blood-drenched soldier is. It’s the LORD (vs 2-6), and He has just returned from defeating the Gentile world powers (Rev 14:14-20 & 19:11-21). The Jews and Jerusalem will suffer no more, as promised (Dan 9:24). 63:1b Edom is representative of all those who hate Israel (Obad 1-4,10-14). Bozrah was Edom’s capital.
