2 For 10 HE shall grow up before HIM as a 11 TENDER PLANT , and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no formnor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. PP 52:11 When Israel returns home from her future captivity, she is warned not to bring with her the sins that took her into captivity ( Zech 5:8 ). They were to leave in Babylon the sins that had carried them there. 52:13 Verses 13-15 actually go with Isaiah 53, not Isaiah 52. 52:15 CHRIST’S blood sacrifice at Calvary will draw people from every nation upon earth ( sprinkle many nations – Gen 12:3 & 18:18 & 22:18 & 26:4 & 28:14, Acts 3:25 and Gal 3:28). Isaiah 53 Isaiah 53 is one of the riches chapters in the Bible concerning MESSIANIC prophecy. Consisting of just twelve verses, this one chapter contains 25 different prophecies concerning CHRIST , ranging from promises pointing to His birth, life, death, resurrection, and future Kingdom. Outside of Psalm 118 and Psalm 110, Isaiah 53 also contains more quotes concerning CHRIST than any other chapter in the Bible. In fact, Matthew (Mt 8:17), Mark (Mk 15:28), Luke (Lk 22:37 and Acts 8:32-33), John (Jn 12:38), and Paul (Rom 10:16) all quote Isaiah 53. Often called The Gospel of Isaiah , Isaiah 53 is all about the Person of CHRIST and His message of salvation. 53:1a Speaking for all the prophets ( our report ) that have ever spoken out for God (Mt 13:16-17, Jn 8:56, Acts 3:20-24 & 7:51-52 & 10:42-43, Heb 4:1-2 & 11:17-19,24-27 and I Pet 1:10-12) Isaiah calls attention to the world’s utter disdain for CHRIST and His salvation. Ever since the Garden of Eden, when God offered salvation to mankind through a coming MESSIAH (Gen 3:15,21), man has chosen to reject the message of salvation through CHRIST . From Cain (Gen 4:1-7) to Judas (Mt 27:3) to our present day and age, men everywhere continue to reject the only means of salvation ever offered to mankind (Jn 14:6). 53:1b The “ arm of the LORD ” is always in reference to the power of God (Exo 6:6, Job 40:9, Psa 89:12-13 and Acts 13:17). Thus, the “ arm of the LORD ” here is referring to the power of God in Isaiah’s report, which according to Romans 10:16 concerns the MESSIAH and His salvation (Rom 1:16). Isaiah 53:1 could be paraphrased to read: Who (since the beginning of creation – I Jn 3:12) has accepted our powerful testimony concerning the Gospel of CHRIST and His salvation? The question ( Who hath believed our report? ) is rhetorical, and so the implied answer is “very few” indeed (Mt 7:13-14). NOTE - While it is true that not everything the prophets wrote about concerning Jesus was revealed to them, it is also true that every OT prophet believed in a coming MESSIAH who would redeem him from his sins ( Job 19:25 , Lk 2:38 and I Pet 1:10-12). 53:2a Whereas CHRIST came the first time (Fulfilled - Luke 2:7,11 – Jesus’ First Coming) as a “ TENDER PLANT ” to bring life (Jn 10:10), He will come the second time as a ROARING LION to take life (Mt 25:31-41 and Rev 19:11-21). 53:2b According to Isaiah, CHRIST came the first time “thoroughly disadvantaged” ( a root out of a dry ground ). 53:2c According to Isaiah, CHRIST came the first time “draped in obscurity” ( he hath no form nor comeliness ). Knowing men and how they love to elevate other men ( Job 32:21 -22), Jesus came the first time as a plain and simple looking man.” Reason being: He did not want men coming to him for the wrong reasons ( Mt 9:30 ).
