The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron

Those who are familiar with the method of flowing together should express the ‘song of the Lord’ publically. Those who do not have a pleasant singing voice or ability to follow or create a musical current would do better to speak rather than sing their word.

Order of Entry

An order of entry is important for the instruments as each musician might hear a different accompaniment to what is being sung. A designated keyboard/piano or guitar player with skills in playing by ear is the most suitable choices as these instruments are able to establish the rhythm and harmony. Next could be bass and drums and then other instruments and voices can follow. The worship leader or a designated leading musician can help direct the flow by hand signals or intercom system. There is a difference between improvising and the Spiritual Song. Improvising or jamming is about the music, becoming skillful at following another’s musical rifts and progressions. The Spiritual Song is about the presence of the Lord; it is focused on worship and hearing His voice. It does involve a type of improvisation and musical sensitivity but that is subordinate to the immediate closeness of the Holy Spirit.
