The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron
heart and you can sing or play it on your instrument. Sometimes it is words that can fit an already established flow of a song. Sometimes it is words and a new melody that seemingly drops into your heart. Rarely will you have the entire song or thought to the prophetic word. The song and the words come to us as seeds and we must take a step of faith to begin the prophetic process. Peter tells us; ‘Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding (in terpretation), or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.’ 2 Pet 1:20, 21 The definition of the word ‘moved’ aids our understanding of the prophetic process. It means to ‘drive along’, ‘lead into’, ‘ and carry a burden.’ There is an emotional weight that comes upon a person when the Lord wants to use them in prophetic ministry. You just feel a ‘burden,’ not negatively but a pressing feeling that you must share what is coming to you. As you start you are led and driven along by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It’s important to stop when the burden lifts. God does not put the words in your mouth when you are in a spiritual trance. The process is one of cooperation with Him and we are always in control of our own spirit and words. All songs do not have to flow in content and style. While this is desirable the Holy Spirit can change direction in thoughts quite rapidly.
