The Spiritual Song - Exploring Prophetic Worship by Mike Herron

to the Lord in their chains. ‘Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations.’ (Acts 16:25,26) This is almost ‘earthquakes on demand!’ Our praise sends liberating reverberations into the subterranean world of darkness.

The sound of a hailstorm

‘Then, in heaven, the Temple of God was opened…and there was an earthquake and a terrible hailstorm.’ (Rev 11:19)

Hailstorms make a percussive sound as the pellets of ice crash into the earth. Perhaps we can view our participation as an individual cube of ice. When mixed with the sound of the corporate gathering it crescendos in volume. The spiritual song of corporate praise has within it the drum roll of adoration. God’s house, his Temple of worship, is consumed in a roar of worship.

The sound of mighty ocean waves

‘And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of mighty ocean waves or the rolling of loud thunder. It was like the sound of many harpists playing together. This great choir sang a wonderful new song in the front of the throne of God.. .’ (Rev 14:2, 3)
