concerned. But a child-parent relationship is a heart

relationship and not a performance one. The parent keeps his

or her eye on God and not on the ups or downs of the spiritual

son or daughter. The spiritual parent believes in the impossible

dream for the child until the child can believe it.

5. The gift of Speaking the Truth in Love .

Finally, a spiritual parent does not sugarcoat life in Jesus Christ.

It is important that spiritual parents be both encouraging and

honest about life in the Lord. There will come hard times and

even divine testing in every believer's life. Jesus saw such a

time coming for Peter and the other disciples.

“ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned b ack, strengthen your brothers.” But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me” ( Luke 22:31-34).

The life of the believer is not avoidance of the hard lessons of

life but the assurance that God will go with him or her through

it.

And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father
