Four Hallmarks of a Movement

Spiritual movements must be a deliberate focus. I will discuss

this more later but we need to say this up front. Only through

movement will we hope to outstrip the existing world birth rate.

So, let’s better understand how to develop Holy Spirit inspired

movements.

Here are the four marks of a true movement as laid out by the U.S. Center of World missions. 35

1. Believers must become not just discipled but discipleship

makers - causing every new disciple to become a disciple

maker who repeats this process out to the fourth generation

and beyond.

2. Multiplying churches: Churches (not just denominations)

are to plant churches. Every new church is committed to

planting more churches (i.e. essential churches) until

church planting extends out to the fourth generation of new

churches. Obviously what is meant by church here is not
