Second, a movement is not the work of human effort and will, it
is a work of the Holy Spirit. Such a work arises from focused
prayer and unity and joining God where we see him working. It
has always been interesting to me when and where God breaks
loose in our efforts to reach out in His name. What I have found
is that it is crucial not to try and get God to join your plans, but
to join him in His.
Multiplication — generational discipleship happens when we
have correctly trained believers in generational discipleship
along with spiritual sensitivity to where you see God blessing
and working. Movements are then a combination of applied
biblical principles of discipleship under the anointing of the
Spirit of God.
Let me be clear that a spiritual movement is not some form of
mass evangelism that gathers and wins thousands to faith in
Christ in an evangelism crusade or program. A movement can
begin that way but it must quickly be maintained and expanded
with multiplication - generational discipling.
Too often mass evangelism tends to win a lot of converts who
are told to go find a church to attend with the hope that such a
church will more fully disciple them. The result usually has a
very small percentage of converts being discipled. This is not
an effective method for a sustained growing move of God. It
may indeed revive the local churches and create a short lived
