The Shaking of Nations - A Harvest Tsunami Is On Its Way....

Jesus’ Idea of the Church

So, where does reformation begin? Where must we focus in

our strategic re-thinking of how we do church so that we will be

ready to receive the greater harvest and finish the Great

Commission? We must begin by restoring the basic concept of

the “ ekklesia. ”.

Jesus’ idea of the church was very simple. He purposely used

the Greek word “ ekklesia, ” which meant “a called -out assembly

of people, ” to describe it. The word was actually a political

concept for citizens being called together in Greek city-states

to do city business and vote on important matters.

Jesus could have used the terms “ temple ” or “synagogue” to

describe the assembling of God’s people to live out the life of

the Kingdom of God. But He did not. Jesus did not want the

church to get caught up in building temples and synagogues, and carrying the baggage of those systems of worship. 25 Paul

tried that strategy and it did not work.

Instead Jesus chose a neutral, non-religious term to emphasize

that the church was to be a gathering of God’s people

25 I want to give full credit to Dr. Ed Silvoso for this understanding in his book Ekklesia , which I will refer to often in dealing with this truth.
