especially in America, which still has a strong influence on the

worldwide church.

I decided to go to Fuller Seminary and earn a doctorate in

church growth, studying the church in its present forms. I both

wanted to understand how to grow my own church and to

evaluate the church in general. As a result, I came to realize

the growing decline and ineffectiveness of the “ Western Church

Model ” in reaching and transforming cultures and nations.

Over the years, I have participated in various church and

regional revivals. As I watched I increasingly saw that how we

were doing church was frustrating the ongoing work of these

revivals. The problem was not a lack of churches to handle the

converts from these revivals, because most existing churches

were not full of people. The problem was that our western

model of doing church no longer drew the majority of people

into them and effectively discipled them.

As I went back to the Lord with this growing concern, He led me

to books and leaders who had the same burden I did. As I

learned more, I realized that my assignments to build arks and

schools of prophets was not to just call for revival, but also for

reformation in how so many are doing church today. Please

understand that this is not a rejection of the western model of

church, but a challenge to adjust it and reform how it needs to

go forward.
