Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
So, we all gathered to celebrate at the Dairy Queen that was down the street from the church. After all, what says celebration better than a good Oreo Cookie Blizzard ice cream from Dairy Queen? Little did we know, God was about to do something powerful on Duval Street in the thick of the Fantasy Festival crowd. The clock was about to strike midnight on Halloween. Our ministry team regrouped and made our way back to the center of Key West, right out in front of Sloppy Joe’s Bar on Duval Street. We had been witnessing, passing out gospel tracts, singing and worshipping and praying with people on the streets of Key West for a few days and nights. What was about to happen on the streets in the center of town was a Holy Ghost culmination, an outpouring that would touch hundreds of people right out on the streets. Mel Rolls, Denny Nissley and I gathered up our outreach team on Duval Street out in front of Sloppy Joe’s. it was a massive throng of people at the height of their partying. It definitely constituted a mob. All around us, stationed at each corner and up and down Duval Street were Key West Police Department paddy wagons, appearing ready to arrest our team for any and every violation of city ordinances they could think of… disturbing the peace, loitering, passi ng out Gospel tracts without city approval… any and all trumped up charges they had been threatening us with all week. Many of the Fantasy Festival partyers had try to make citizen’s arrests against us for days, anything to shut us up from preaching Jesus Christ.
