Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
The Fantasy Festival Crowd had had enough of our message, From Death To Life. Hundreds of them ran from the stands out onto Duval Street, trying to grab the microphone from Scott. They were trying to shut us down. Many were yelling , “Kill them. Get those Christians out of here. Kill them.” Man, we were about to get crushed by the mob who were so mad we had crashed their Fantasy Festival Parade with preaching about Jesus Christ. Denny and I jumped back in the hearse. In the middle of the melee, the bodyguards got the casket loaded back up and we got out of there as fast as we could. As we were making our getaway, a glorious thing happened. Mel Rolls had about a hundred young people from the Daystar Youth Group planted in the bleachers. As soon as the preaching finished and we loaded the coffin back in the hearse, they too flooded onto Duval Street, unfurling banners that read “Jesus Is Lord” and “Jesus Christ, King of Kings.” The group began to sing Jesus songs so loud it drowned out everything else that was happening and they walked behind the hearse, singing, passing out Gospel tracts and witnessing for Jesus until we reached the end of the parade route. We had survived the very first Jesus outreach to the Fantasy Festival. We had survived the Judges Reviewing Stand. We had survived the onslaught of wild partygoers who wanted us ejected from the parade.
We had been able to preach our From Death to Life
message all across Key West.
