Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
Christ in Action, Streetwise Ministry, and Daystar Youth Group, there were probably about 80 of us prayed up and ready to hit the streets of Key West.
We wanted everyone to be introduced to our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Before hitting the streets, our group spent time at the church in praise and worship, prayer and intercession and we had an old-fashioned foot washing. The leaders of the outreach washed the feet of everyone who was there to minister on the streets of The Keys during Fantasy Festival. The first place we decided to take our Jesus street team to was Mallory Square. Since the early 1800’s, crowds have gathered for a Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square. Beginning two hours before sunset every night, huge crowds gathered to salute the sunset and worship it. When we got to Mallory Square, we were informed that we had to be approved by the pier manager to set up on the pier and perform. We asked the pier manager, Keith, if it would be OK if we took our little group and found a spot on the pier to play guitar and sing a few Christian songs. Keith responded , “I don’t care. Go ahead. We already got plenty of freaks out there. What’s a few more?” Our Jesus band was about to discover exactly what kind of freaks Keith was referring to.
As we walked out onto the pier, I saw what I can
only describe as the craziest scene I had ever seen.
