Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
tracts, witnessing to people and singing along with me as I needed a little extra help.
We unfurled the Jesus banner we had brought from America that boldly declared “Jesus. Beautiful Savior.” For the first half-hour or so, everything was going rather smoothly. The guys had a few demonstrative conversations with passersby but, overall, things were calm. That was all about to change and change drastically. As I was playing guitar and singing about Jesus, a few very strong street-type men came up to me and started encroaching on my corner. I could tell they were planning to intimidate us to stop singing about Jesus, put the Jesus banner away and leave the corner in this highly populated area of Shinjuku. One of them said to me, “This is our corner. Get off it.” I continued playing guitar and singing. They moved in closer to me and continued their intimidation. I quickly realized these men were pimps and they had a stable of young Japanese girls, prostitutes walking the sidewalk. I’m sure we were cutting into the pimps’ profits because we had taken over one of the busiest corners where they made the girls parade themselves to Johns that would spend large amounts of money on them. Just as Brother Bill and the rest of our group realized what was happening, a holy boldness and righteous indignation came over me and I confronted the men. I pointed my finger at the pimps and declared to them, “This is not your corner, this is God’s corner. He sent us here from half-way around the world to be on this corner tonight.” They were shocked as I also said, “This is God’s corner and if you touch me, He will strike you dead!”
