The next time we received a call from Martha, our hearts sank just a little bit. We knew it must be news of her father’s passing. We were not wrong. She wanted to share his last words with us. Pastor Jesus Velarde led a life of service like very few have ever done. The family had moved his bed into the living room of their home. He had been lingering. Often, they thought he may be taking his last breath. Suddenly, one day he called for his beautiful wife, Delia. He instructed her to gather the family. While they were all gathered around his bed he said, “Jesus is coming soon! Now, get to work!” Although he was laying in his bed preparing to transition to Heaven, his mind was stayed on Jesus and how many more people needed to receive Him. We are so blessed to have known him. Never dismiss the call of God a child believes he or she has in his or her life. Teach your children they can do ALL things through Christ. Let your children volunteer with you, show them what working and serving the Lord is. All these trips have blended together over the years. Obviously, this account of our ministry in Tijuana is not in chronological order. Why didn’t we keep a calendar of these events as we did them? I remember one of these amazing trips to Tijuana with so many of the people we love, Frank and Angie had loaned their Toy Hauler trailer to Brian and Teri Bennett. There were so many things in that trailer and in the pickup truck hauling it. They knew if they placed a couple of dirt bikes in the back of the pickup truck the border guards would assume they were headed to Mexico for a family camping
