Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
Our friends and supporters of our ministry, Kris and Meredith Johnson, came all the way from Colorado to help build the church. Pastor Troy Bohn came and not only worked on the church, but he also worked on the kitchen flooring in the Delia Velardes home that needed repair. Aaron Ausherman and Jason Smedley from Sunland, California came along and worked so hard. I know I’m leaving out some important names here and I apologize if I left anyone out. Bobby and I were so thankful for all who came together in service to the Lord to build this church. God assembled the most amazing team to bless this little church that has done mighty things for the Kingdom. We were so blessed to play a part in it. We couldn’t possibly name all the people who have been an integral part of the outreaches and building projects in Tijuana, but Chris and Wendy Colgan, Pete and Olwyne Nesbitt, Chris and Shawna Schumacher and Gloria Huerta were among some of our friends who volunteered with us in Mexico. Nick Paff preached at the garbage dump in Spanish and was joined by his wife, Dr. Shayne Paff. Bobby and Jesus Velarde had a special friendship. They both had much respect and admiration for one another. One day Martha Velarde (Now Martha DeOrlow since marrying her sweetheart, Steve) called Bobby to tell him her dad asked her to call. He wanted to speak with Bobby. Pastor Velarde had been diagnosed with cancer and wasn’t given much time to live. Pastor Velarde wanted Bobby to know how much he loved him and how much he appreciated the things our ministry had done to help his family and ministry. It was a very touching conversation. Bobby is still impacted by that conversation to this very day. There may have been a few tears shed over that heartfelt conversation.
