Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
hundreds of toys to bless the children with. We also fed them lunch at the parties. It was so great to watch the church grow, and the church members begin to participate in these outreaches. The parties were all about Jesus! They got toys, candy, and food, but they also heard everything about Jesus and how He came to give them life and to give it more abundantly! We had some new friends the year we had 600 children at the party. Rudy and Lori Gonzales. Their son, Anthony, joined us for one of our trips there. Rudy and Lori had two daughters, Maddie and Cece, younger than Anthony. When they found out about the toy drives, they wanted to participate and have their own toy drive for Tijuana. Maddie and Cece raised 1500 toys the next year. These little girls were only about six and eight years old. Some of the team left the church in the school bus and went to the garbage dump and passed out toys. TBN ’s Smile of a Child donated hundreds of Barbie dolls and matchbox cars to be given out. We sent hot dogs and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the team headed to the garbage dump. The team was overwhelmed with the number of children at the dump. There was not enough food. They began breaking hot dogs and sandwiches in half to feed the starving children. Many of the team members wept. I mentioned earlier that we had seen the church begin to grow. The church building wasn’t very large. They soon grew to about 150 people. They didn’t all fit into the building. People began to stand outside the building to be able to hear the Gospel being preached. What a problem to have, they needed a solution.
