Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

would occasionally call Bobby “Dad”, but the funny thing was he was about five or six years older than Bobby was.

There were nights that we would be sound asleep downstairs. The rest of the staff and Ronnie lived upstairs in this hillside home. Our phone in our room would ring and wake us up. Then we would hear Ronnie’s voice on the answering machine. He usually wanted to talk to Bobby about a Bible verse he had just read. I can still hear his raspy voice, “Bobby, Bobby, I need to talk to you. Uh, uh, uh this Bible verse says…” While we were excited for his new-found zeal, we also wanted our sleep! After having been homeless and on the streets for fourteen years there was so much Ronnie needed to relearn about being part of a family again. He no longer needed to be a night owl in to stay safe. He no longer needed to sleep on the ground, he could sleep on a bed on a nice comfortable mattress. I won’t share all of Ronnie’s story with you, but I do want to share a little more with you. You will see how God had His Hand on Ronnie throughout his life. Ronnie lived with us for several months. Ronnie had a big heart and he liked to do kind things for people. The problem was he still had “the streets” inside of him. He had been homeless for fourteen years. He had a lot to learn and a lot to unlearn. Amy, Molly, and Emily’s toys began to disappear. What in the world could have happened to those toys. We began asking everyone in the house about it including Ronnie. He told us there were some children he met that needed toys and it looked like our girls had more than enough to give away.
