Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
Philippines and built a new home for Joan’ s parents as their home was unlivable because of Typhoon Haiyans, damage. J316 Global Rescue started the Legacy Project and built a church in a very rural area in the Philippines. On our last trip there, a team from a church in California joined us and we took suitcases of medications to people who were sick and needed help. Thankfully, the pastor of the church from California was born in the Philippines and spoke the local Tagalog language. We were approached by airport security when we landed in Manila, and they were preparing to search our large suitcases. We prayed they wouldn’t look inside them because with all the medications we were bringing in, it looked like we were coming to set up a meth lab. The pastor met the guards ahead of us with a greeting in Tagalog and took their attention away from our suitcases full of medicines. We had no idea what they were saying to each other as they joked and laughed for a few minutes. Suddenly, the security officers waved us through with no search of our luggage. On the way back to the USA on that trip, we were taken to the airport in Pagadian City. As this area of the Philippines is also populated by terrorists and jihadist people, once we got to the airport we were encouraged by Pastor Gerson and others to “keep a low profile” in that airport until we got back to Manila. As we were in the airport terminal waiting to board the plane, I stepped just around the corner outside to make a quick phone call home. As I hung up from my call, I could hear very loud voices coming from inside the terminal. The voices were alarming.
