Back in January of 1993, Frank Gresham and I flew from Dallas to New York City where we joined up with Pastor Rick Del Rio and Abounding Grace Church to do outreach on the streets in Times Square and throughout the Lower East Side. Within just a few days from then, President Bill Clinton was going to be inaugurated as our 42 nd President of the United States in Washington, D.C. Frank and I knew there would be tens of thousands of people there we could pass out tracts and minister to. Bill Clinton had run his political campaign on a message of “Change,” and we knew everyone needed change. We planned on joining up with our street ministry friend, Scott Hinkle, when we got to D.C. Scott had written a broadside gospel tract and had it printed for us to hand out to the thousands of people who would be in Washington, D.C. that day. The message of the tract was, “ The Time For Change Is Here .” Our message was not political, democrat or republican, our message was it is time for a change in your life by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Our Gospel message was not political. Frank loved carrying the cross at outreaches. Pastor Rick had a construction company in NYC, so we took some 2x6 boards from their lot and built an eight foot cross to carry at the outreach in D.C. Once the cross was built, we took it and laid it down on the top of the roof of our rental car, took some nylon straps and tied it down to the car. We sure got a
