As I stood at the pulpit and opened my Bible to begin preaching the message the Lord had given me, before I could begin, I heard myself blurting out something I had not thought of, I had not planned it and Dot and I had not even discussed it.

I heard myself say, “Pray for me. I am going to the

Philippines!”

What? Did I just say that? It was as if I had opened my mouth to speak, but the Lord was speaking through me. “I am going to the Philippines! ” Both services at Trinity Lighthouse were powerful and uplifting. As I always did, I challenged the congregation for us all to be more involved, doing our part to fulfill His Great Commission. When Jesus directed His disciples to “GO into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature ,” He was not giving them The Great Suggestion … He was giving them The Great Commission . Without doubt, I knew my next assignment from the Lord was to prepare myself, put a disaster relief team together and head to the Philippines. I quickly realized two things; 1) I had no idea where the Philippines was, 2) I didn’t know even one person in the Philippines. I began to jokingly tell people, “I don’t know where the Philippines is. I don’t even know how to spell Philippines .” Sooner than I realized, that was all about to change … drastically! When Dot and I returned to Los Angeles, we continued earnestly praying about my upcoming ministry in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. It was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones
