Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
them. They had dropped him off at the nearby park and said they would come back to get him.
Biggie had been sleeping under a hedge near the McDonalds parking lot to stay safe at night. Evidently, he had been there for days. He was dirty and pretty pitiful. He pulled at the heartstrings of all who encountered him. When the team returned to the hotel and told me about him, I was extremely upset. Who would do that to this precious little boy? What kind of parents must they be? I couldn’t sleep that night. I laid in bed and I prayed for Biggie. I knew we had to spring into action and do something to keep Biggie safe. I contacted Pastor Anthony to see if he and Mary would be willing to take Biggie in until his parents could be found. Pastor Anthony was full of wisdom and was willing to help this precious little boy out. The team returned to the place where they met Biggie. Biggie was nowhere to be found. Then, they spotted Biggie’s friends who happily rode in the van with the team to show them where Biggie lives! Biggie had spun a tall tale about his circumstances. Biggie did know where his mother was. She was at home in their small shack with his three younger brothers. There is usually a reason children spin tall tales. Although he spun a tale (ok, he absolutely lied to the team) Biggie had huge problems. Not only did he and his family live in tremendous poverty, but his mother was also an alcoholic and was rarely sober. I’m not quite sure we have ever understood the complete story or what was truly happening, but we got involved.
