responsible for. The children live with them, with their family members and/or church members. Sondra supported them generously and she called the “orphanage” Mama’s House. Mama Rose also operated a Mama’s House in her lovely home. Sondra was deeply involved in both Mama’s houses and raised funds to help keep them going. We have been privileged to visit Mama Rose in her home several times. Bobby and I both were fascinated to see a framed letter hanging on her living room wall from Nelson Mandela. He commended her for all the amazing work she had done in her own community. She was an intercessor; evangelist and she also had run soup kitchens to feed the poor. I think for each of those twenty-two years Sondra would call me or come to me and say, “Dot, come go to South Africa with me.” Each time Sondra asked me to go with her I gave her an unequivocal “no” for an answer. Going to South Africa never seemed to be a place I longed to be. I had heard many stories and testimonies from other friends who had been called to minister in South Africa. To be honest, those testimonies may have added to the reasons I had no desire to visit there. One day after Sondra asked me, once again, to go with her to South Africa I didn’t just tell Sondra no. I said to her emphatically “ Sondra, if God ever tells me to go, I will definitely go”. I felt confident that He was not going to call me to South Africa. For several years I served on the Board of Sondra Berry Young Ministries. I enjoyed being a part of the ministry Board and hearing of Pastor Anthony and Mary and Mama Rose. There were many more people in South Africa Sondra ministered with and ministered to that she
