Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
Chapter 13 South Africa Why Don’t You Go?
A dear friend of ours, Sondra Berry Young, was a missionary to South Africa for 22 years. Sondra’s heart seemed to beat for South Africa. She loved the country; she loved the people. Sondra traveled back and forth quite a bit between the USA and South Africa. The first time she went was in 1988. She had her two sweet girls, Felicia and Anna, with her. If she wasn’t talking about the annual outreach to the Rose Parade, she was talking about South Africa and Pastors Anthony and Mary Sithole and Mama Rose (Peterson). Sondra coordinated an evangelistic outreach to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, every year. She organized hundreds of Christians to come witness to the throngs of parade-goers. Bobby and I met Sondra in about 1982 when we were on staff at the Holy Ghost Repair Service. Sondra was all-in for soulwinning and the ministry of healing. Sondra was bold and she was unconventional. Sondra was not afraid of standing before congregations and talking about her missionary travels to South Africa. She also was not afraid to preach on the streets of the world and share her faith. At street outreaches in America, it was not uncommon to see Sondra walking with a folding chair in her arms. She would ask people on the streets to sit in that chair as she prayed for them to be healed. That was Sondra! Bold and beautiful for the Lord.
