set up our tables on the streets. Our friend, Christi Ausherman, was always quick to volunteer to make homemade cookies for the people of Skid Row – what a special treat for them. They didn’t have access to home baked cookies. Their favorite choice for a drink was almost always red soda pop! We made sure to buy plenty to take with us to Skid Row. Pastor Troy Bohn came into town to go with us to Skid Row Super Saturday and bought watermelons for the crowd. Boy, what a mess that made cutting the watermelon on tables we set up. It was worth it all when we saw that it was such a treat to our homeless friends on Skid Row. One time I had the bright idea to cook 100 pounds of brisket for our Super Saturday on Skid Row. I literally broke my brand-new oven from all the juices pouring out of the brisket and overflowing right into the oven! Although it was an added expense, the repair man came and got it up and going in no time. Something amazing happened that day. A man walked up to where we were setting up the food tables. He asked me what we were serving that day. I replied, “Texas barbecue brisket.” He said, “ Oh, no. No, you’re not. I can tell you if it is authentic Texas barbecue.” I recognized the Texas drawl as he spoke. I asked him where he was from. He told me he is from a little town in Texas that I’ve never heard of. I pressed him for the name of the town. When he said “Mt. Pleasant, Texas” I just couldn’t believe it! Bobby grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Texas! It is definitely a small town. I called Bobby over to introduce him to this man. He had gotten out of the Navy and was broke and had no place to call home. He ended up on
