Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

After all, if Jesus were sitting at my table, I would feed Him the very best and highest quality food that I could, right? We always had volunteers come with us and everyone worked in the serving line. We trained the volunteers to treat the homeless with respect and to make sure we didn’t just throw the food onto the plate in a sloppy manner. All that because we were serving as if we were serving Jesus! One particular day as I was working in the serving line the sweet volunteer beside me had gotten a little sloppy with the chili he had put on a plate. I quietly took the plate and wiped the dripping chili with a paper towel before serving it to the homeless person in line. Awhile later, a man came up to me and said he wanted to talk to me. I was preparing myself to hear a complaint from him. With tears in his eyes, he told me that he saw what I had done. I was a bit puzzled and was moved by the tears in his eyes. He said you showed so much respect when serving food to us. “ I saw you wipe that plate! ” That was an open door for me to share with him that we like to serve the people as though we were serving Jesus! Because of that one thing that seems so little, this man was open to hear the Gospel.

“ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ” We didn’t always serve chili dogs on Super Saturday, but that was definitely their favorite meal we served.
