As we all talked, the consensus was it would be alright to take these people to the village nearby. I felt uneasy. We always want to be helpful to anyone in need and be a blessing to them. So, our team packed up, jumped in the van with Mohammed as our driver. This was about to be the ride of a lifetime. The atmosphere in the van was lighthearted as we started our trek back to Padang. The two women in the van we were taking to the nearby village chatted quietly to each other. The burly man with the tire sat stoic and focused. It felt like he was on a special mission that was nearing liftoff. As we approached the nearby village, Mohammed slowed the van down and slowly came to a stop. Without a word, the women got out of the van and headed into a home nearby. The burly man with the tire that needed repair seemed to purposefully take a little extra time to exit the van and be on his way. In a split second we found out why. Almost instantly our van was surrounded by eight to ten men riding sleek motorbikes. They were all dressed in white Muslim attire. This had been a set up all along.
