Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
People continued to ask to take pictures with us, many asked to take video of us preaching and it seemed to be a favorable crowd now. But I still noticed a few men with stern faces, conversing among themselves, seemingly displeased because of our singing and preaching about Jesus Christ out in front of what was once a thriving Muslim mosque. We gave away all the Bibles we had. We gave away all the food packets we had. We gave away all the disaster relief supplies we had. But we still had a heart to help these desperate people any way we could. Our team gathered up and realized we still had some cash left from purchasing the relief supplies and food in town. So, we went to many of the elderly women, the moms with children and handed them the cash we had left to give. We realized quickly that was not a smart thing to do. Although the money would help people in great need, people who were there with evil intentions perceived us as rich Americans who had come to Pariaman and had more than enough money to give out. As we said a closing prayer and prepared to get back in the van and go back to Padang, Pastor Steve told us that two women and one man needed a ride back from the jungle area where we were. We had been asked to drop them off in a nearby village on our way back to Padang. The man we were to have ride in the van was one of the men I saw scowling, smoking cigarettes, looking skeptically at our Bibles, and talking among other men who seemed as though they were against us.
