As we entered the outskirts of Pariaman, we approached a military guard gate. We pulled up to the guard gate where two Indonesian military men, armed with guns and heavy rifles began to question us. After a full interrogation, we were released to pass through the gate and continue our journey to Padang. We were relieved that we were not stopped and turned back by the guards. When we finally arrived in Padang, I noticed this area was not the same area we had been in the day before. In the Pariaman area previously, people seemed welcoming and happy for us to be there. Families as well as military police had posed with pictures and videos with us. People had smiled and were grateful for the food kits and supplies we had brought. They were even happy to receive the Bahasa Indonesian Bible we had handed out to the families in the village we were in. I had stood on the corner and played guitar, we sang and preached Jesus and there was no opposition expressed toward us. But this day seemed very different. This village seemed very different. We could feel a heaviness and a darkness that permeated the area and many of the families there. In our many years of street ministry, we knew to never be dissuaded by the crowd or the environment we were thrown into. We knew that no matter the darkness
