Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
All the gold and riches were available to the government and the people who lived in the upper echelon, but the common people lived paltry lives. They had no way to pursue personal freedom. But we knew as we gave them Bibles, the Word of God, that they could discover freedom in Jesus. Scripture declares, “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” One day, I took my guitar and was out on the corner playing and singing. A crowd of young Russians had gathered around. I noticed they kept pointing at me and whispering. I realized they were pointing at my T shirt that had a message about Jesus written in English on the front of it. In broken English, they were pointing and chanting in unison, “Your shirt. Your shirt.” I realized they wanted me to give them my shirt. So I took off my Jesus T-shirt and traded one of them for one of their shirts. They also gave me a Russian flag. As I continued playing my guitar and singing, the young crowd began to point at me again and chant, “Your pants. Your pants.” I was wearing American made blue jeans that were so valuable in Russia. It was quite a status symbol for young Russians to wear American jeans. Emphatically, I motioned to the crowd, “No! No! No!” I let them know I was fine giving them my shirt, but I drew the line at giving up my pants. I was glad to see they understood and were satisfied with my decision. This had been such a great opportunity for these young Russians to hear me sing and preach about Jesus. As most Russians, they came off as very stoic and
