Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
I began to strum the guitar and the other musicians began to follow my lead, mirroring the chords and rhythms I was playing. As we clicked, I walked up to the microphone and began to sing. I sang songs about Jesus. “Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, Jesus Christ is Lord forever,” I sang, “I can’t stop praising His Name, I can’t stop praising His Name. Can’t stop praising the Name of Jesus!” We played these songs in an energetic, rock-style. Although the other musicians and I could not communicate with our words, music is a common communication that transcends language. The band was locked in and the rhythms were tight. As I looked into the jam-packed crowd in the bar, they were dancing up a storm and drinking beer like there was no tomorrow. Many people from the restaurant had stopped to enjoy what was happening. As we ended our set, the crowd applauded, cheered wildly, and roared their approval for these American musicians. We knew the Lord was touching people as we lifted up His Name in music, even though they had no idea what we were singing. Jesus was being lifted up in the middle of a bar in Moscow, Russia.
To God be all the Glory.
The following day, our group found it’s way to a small, underground church on the outskirts of the city. As we walked in, I saw their church pews were similar to wooden sawhorses we use in America. There was very dim lighting as a singular light bulb hung down from the ceiling.
