Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World

As the small group of people inside began to sing hymns, I felt a powerful presence of the Lord. I realized these believers were worshipping the same Jesus I worshipped. They were singing about the same Jesus I sing about. I realized Jesus is the same, whether in a beautiful. candle-lit cathedral in America or a small, dimly lit underground church in Russia, Jesus Christ is the same. Dr. Ron Cottle got up and spoke to the group. Then Pastor Dwayne and Pastor Larry Cornett taught the people. Then I took my guitar and sang a couple of songs. It was a glorious service, and our hearts were full. I realized as we were having church, KGB Units were nearby on a dirt road, sitting in their cars, keeping a watchful eye on our group, and probably monitoring our every movement. As we boarded the bus to leave, we were asked if we could take a few of the crowd back to town, so we agreed. On the way back, several of the women told us that not too long ago, their husbands had led a church service like we had just done and the KGB had busted into the building and arrested them. These men were sentenced to years of hard labor in camps known in Russia as corrective labor camps. The women had no idea when, or if, they would ever see their husbands again. As we returned to the hotel where our American tour group was staying, I noticed something I had never seen before in America. The large hotel had about ten large glass double doors in the front to go in and out of.
