Sing Into Your Storm ~ Overcoming Adversity Through High Praise
Amazing Grace. John Newton was a ruthless, slave-trader, blasphemer, immoral, torturer and vile man. In the midst of a great storm at sea, likely facing death, he got on his knees and pleaded to God for Mercy and Grace. He was totally transformed by it, to which he ended up writing a song about that night years later, while pastoring in Olney, England. How Great Thou Art. Carl Gustav Boberg was caught in a severe storm, frightened and hiding in a perch. He witnessed incredible thunder and lightning as the dark tempest passed over. Soon after, he saw the most beautiful rainbow set over the bay, with the sun shining and the birds chirping and the church bells softly tolling! Overwhelmed by God’s Greatness and Majesty (and deliverance) he penned that song. ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus. Louisa Stead wrote that incredibly popular hymn right after experiencing the most tragic death of her husband who died while trying to save a young boy who was drowning off the waters at Long Island, New York. Afterwards she ended up joining her daughter in missionary work in Africa for 25 years where her song is still sung in many different languages! Through It All. Andrae Crouch had fallen in love with one of the young women who had joined his singing group called The Disciples. She was a featured soloist and often sang duets with Andrae. Without warning one Saturday morning she notified Andrae she was leaving the group and joining another singing group who travelled overseas. Heartbroken at the loss, Andrae penned the first two parts of the song. Feeling there was yet a closing part, he prayed earnestly for the Lord to give him that third and final part. Three weeks later the Lord provided the inspiration for that part of the song! Just as he was finishing the very last part of that song,
