ROMANS Study Guide

1. Revelation (Seeing) : Rom.6:3, 6,9

a. Without revelation in what we have… we will never have the

faith to activate what we have in Christ. But God must open our

heats to what He is showing us. Paul says the spiritual man must

have the mind of Christ (Rom.12:1) to grasp the spiritual truths he

wants us to know and act on. (1Cor.2:12-14)

b. Revelation then is when our Spirit Man is quickened by the Holy

Spirit to understand a truth that can be believed and acted on .

Paul in this passage lays out three key revelations that we must

all receive.

1) “My old life is crucified …dead” (Rom.6:3)

(I can resist sin; I can be as a dead person in the face of sin)

2) “ I am raised up” … resurrected to walk in our new life in

Christ…(Rom.6:5)

(I have the same life, same Holy Spirit (Rom.8:11), the same

powers (Rom.12:3, 1Cor.12:7-11 and character (Gal.5:22))

that was in Jesus Christ.

3) “I cannot do this alone”…my full identity and experience of

the full life of Christ is grounded in my “oneness” and

membership in the body of Christ (Rom.12:4-5)

If I see (gain the assurance that these things are True) … my faith can now act on them. Paul tells the

Ephesians Church to pray” for the eyes of (their) understanding to be enlightened (to spiritually see

)… that we may know…” (Eph.1:17 -18)

2. Reckoning (faith): Rom.6:11

a. Reckoning is an accounting term meaning to “take an inventory”

or” to count.” The idea here is to understand what we really

have in our “spiritual” account or available to us in Christ.

1) Reckoning is almost another word for faith but with more of

a past tense focus. It is the assurance of what we truly have
