ROMANS Study Guide
a. Paul reminds them that they must keep a watch on their
“soulish nature” … we will talk about this more in chapter
seven but this is not the adamic Sin Nature that is now dead .
The soulish life can still be immature, self-centered in its thinking and
feelings - needing the Holy Spirits healing and transformation. Paul
calls such a soulish condition of a believer “carnal.” (Col. 2:18.
1Cor.3:1-4; Heb.5:11-14; Rom.8:7)
1) Paul says to not let sin reign (have dominion) in your mortal
body (flesh life) … vs.12
2) Paul refers to this region of our life as the “infirmity of our
flesh” (spiritually weak area of our life) vs.19
3) Paul is exhorting these Roman’s to be very careful to “yield or
present continually” their “members” (body parts) to God in
righteousness (vss.13, 16) - because who you consistently
yield your body and mind to - will become your master
whether to Satan for evil or to God for righteousness). Vs.16
Rom 6:17 But thanks be to our God that you were the slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
