ROMANS Study Guide
in our daily living.
c) Satan wants us to serve God out of our own strength,
wisdom and ability. (1Cor.2:14)
False assumptions and understandings of who we are
keep us from living the Life Jesus has purchased for us.
3) What does it mean to live and think like Jesus Christ…
a) It means I can live naturally supernatural …
1) In my ability (Gifts of the Spirit…Rom.12; I Cor.12) 2) In my heart and character (Gal.5:22) 3) In my relationship with Christ’s Body (Eph.4:3 -16)
b) Looking at how Jesus thought…
1) He saw no problem in walking on water (Matt.14:28-31); turning water to wine (Jn.2:3f) and multiplying food (Jn.5-13) 2) He thought humbly as a servant and sacrificially for the good of others (Phil.2:5-11). 3) Yet he knew who he was and his authority from God (Matt.28:18; 26:53) - to challenge the gates of hades. (Matt.16:18 -20)
Rom 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Rom 6:13 Do not yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God, as one alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace. Rom 6:15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under grace? Let it not be! Rom 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to him whom you obey; whether it is of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness.
3. “Don’t let sin rule” …(Paul’s warning and encouragement) vss.12 -18 In Christ, we now have the power to resist sin and Satan … to present ourselves dead to the world’s temptations. We can also present ourselves to God to do His righteous will and work. But even though this is true, it does not mean we will not have to keep ourselves alert and ready to resist temptations and trials and keep choosing to present ourselves to God as servants of righteousness. (vss.12-16)
