ROMANS Study Guide
Forgiveness is an action not a feeling.
b. By doing good towards them - no matter the response.
10) Rejoice (laugh, cheer) with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.
Pastor Chip Ingram gives a test for knowing if we serve others for self- praise or God’s Praise :
“How do we respond when our service is met with disapproval or rejection or contempt.”
11) Be of the same mind (opinion)…avoiding divided thinking
(disunity). Don’t be “high minded” ( thinking of who will benefit
you) but be wil ling to associate with those of “low estate”
(Humble positions). Don’t be conceited (self -absorbed).
12) Don’t repay anyone evil for evil (don’t mistreat those who
mistreat you) … be careful to do what is right in everyone’s
eyes (be honest…not blamable).
a. As much as you can control the situation… be at peace with
everyone.
b. Don’t try to get even… Let God do the paying back. Paul
quotes the Old Testament that God is the one to take
revenge on those who have wronged you. (Duet.32:35)
c. If you enemy is hungry, feed him, if he is thirsty, give him to
drink …by doing this you “heap coals of fire on his head.”
This is not a reference of bringing down fiery judgment but a
conviction of having done you wrong and yet you were
forgiving and gracious in your reactions …. causing them to be
convicted over how they have treated you.
d. Be not overcome (subdued) with evil, but overcome evil with
good (what is beneficial).
