Gal.5:22) that church members should have toward one another:
It is no good that we have supernatural gifts and blessings to give to one another and people in the wider community if our attitude is bad and we lack a servant heart. Paul goes on to deal with the attitude and mind set we must have towards the church body as we minister the gifting God has given to us. (The fruit of the Spirit - Gal.5:22)
Serving with love
vs.9-10
Paul follows his list of gifts with a list of qualities in each believer that allows us to minister the Holy Spirits charisma with love and integrity. Love must be based on honesty. I must begin serving with an honest heart and sincere motives:
1) Love (agape’) without hypocrisy (putting on a mask) … let your care be from a genuine heart. Motives are important as you help people.
2) Abhor (detest, hate) what is evil (hurtful, degenerate) ...cleave (Glue yourself) to what is good (beneficial). Don’t preach one thing and do another. 3) Kindly affectionate (cherishing of another) with brotherly love (Philadelphia…fraternal love) … in honor preferring (giving value and showing deference) to one another. It’s about allowing others to have value and opportunity. 4) Not slothful (late, lazy) in business (not a reference to work but a showing of diligence…being zealous for God and the church) … … fervent in spirit…(hot, on fire) in serving the Lord.
5) Joyful (cheerful) in hope (expectant, confident in what God is doing).
6) Patient (staying under the load, enduring) in tribulation (pre ssure)… preserving (continuously) in prayer.
7) Distributing ( koinonia …sharing) to the necessity of the saints
8) Given to hospitality (entertaining strangers)
9) Bless those who are persecuting you (causing you to suffer by means of slandering you, avoiding you, making trouble for you) … bless and curse not (not judging them or condemning them).
