ROMANS Study Guide
(1) Matt.6:30… how we are to think about clothing, food and life provision. (2) Matt.8:26; 14:31; Mk.6:37…notice renewed thinki ng about living supernaturally in serving God. (3) Phil.2:5ff…. Jesus’ thinking was not to enforce his will but to surrender it to the will of God in all things.
We can only “prove” what is good and acceptable (pleasing) to God when
we build a spiritual mind through the transforming power of the Holy
Spirit.
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think. But set your mind to be right-minded, even as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4. Paul transitions from self-renewal to living as transformed people in
community - the body of Christ. (vs.3)
a. Paul calls attention to his apostolic gifting (grace) that has given
him insight and wisdom into how God’s Church needs to work.
b. He begins in verse three with the fact that effective church
relationships begin with how each member THINKS ABOUT
THEMSELVES IN RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE
BODY!
1) Our “stinken thinken” …
a) I am not able to do what he does … b) I am not as a good a person as she is… c) God wouldn’t use a person like me… d) Well we can’t change things… that’s just the way it is… e) Their not good enough to be in our group… f) We don’t want that kind of youth meeting with our children..
Such thinking destroys church unity and harmony. We must confront our thinking and the attitudes of our hearts to move forward in true church unity to form the greater corporate
Jesus. It is hard to bring SPIRITUAL RENEWAL and LIFE into your life or church when how you think about yourself, and others is wrong.
