My mom and dad, my sister Wynell, and her

children, Gary and Sharon, moved to Marlow, just ten

miles away from our church in Rush Springs. Soon

afterwards, my sister married Dean Talley, who she had

known since childhood. Jean’s sister, Darlene, moved to

Rush Springs after she met and married Rodney

Headley, a young man in our church. It was great

having family as members of our congregation. It was

an honor to serve as their pastor.

1971:

Bus Ministry

In 1971, we started a bus ministry, and our first

bus captains were my dad and Deon Duke. Deon was a

local businessman, who had a great passion for

ministry. Soon our buses were filled with children

desiring to come to church, each Sunday morning, at The

Exciting First Assembly . Our church started to grow, and

we eventually started a building program, which

included more Sunday s chool rooms, a children’s
