Only One Life - By Dale Gentry - His Story - His Journey

at Rush Springs Assembly of God went well. I preached

the following Sunday morning and evening, followed

by a vote of the congregation. I can still see church

member, Billy Pittman, approaching our Ford pickup on

that summer night in June of 1970, announcing that we

were the newly elected pastors. We were very excited! It

was a time of great celebration. Rick was about to enter

the first grade. Jean was thrilled to be in a house again,

and Rick and Darla were happy to have their own

bedrooms.

We spent a considerable amount of time

remodeling the small, three-bedroom, one bath

parsonage. We would put the kids to bed at night, and

work on the house, even though we didn’t have much

carpentry experience. However, Jean was an excellent

interior decorator, and soon this house became our

home. Our six-year season had begun. We jumped right

in and began to give our lives to pastoring, what we

eventually called “ The Exciting First Assembly! ”
